In this video, I'll show you how to bring your dog on an electric trike ride, based on my nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. I'll also share suggestions for making your dog comfortable and safe on your rides. Now, let's explore which of our electric trikes are best for riding with your dog. One thing I'm gonna say is that maybe a compromise you have to make. If that's your number one priority, you may have to either buy the trike that fits your body better and figure out the storage situation later, or maybe you're more concerned about getting your doggy comfortable, and you can maybe compromise some of the features that would be specifically for you as the rider. Because if you see here, there are lots of different storage options on all these e-trikes, and while we try to give as much storage on every e-trike, some are just not conducive to it. So, as an example, when you look at the fat tire here, you actually have a pretty good basket back here, and this could fit a 10 pound 12 pound dog. A lot of people actually put their dogs in the front basket. They'll line it with a blanket, things like that.
The one thing, though, with a folding e-trike is you are trying to keep something compact, so you're wanting a compact trike if you're opting for something folding. So typically, you're gonna find smaller baskets, I would think. Now again, we have a pretty decent-sized basket on here. But as you move into more of a larger e-trike, our relaxed body has a bigger frame, and you also have a really good-sized basket back here. This could fit like a 20-pound dog comfortably. Put a liner in there, and they can come around with the ride with you. Now our simple glides just come with a front basket. And I know a lot of people want to bring their animals with them. You could fit up to a 10-pound dog in here. And you could take the lid off, and they would fit with a liner, things like that. Now I don't know what your preference is as a rider. Obviously, you want to keep the dog secured in some way, you know, hooking the leash on so they can't jump out, things like that. I do know a lot of people would prefer a rear basket on this to bring their animals with them.
We are working on that; that's an option down the line. But you really have to think about priorities, because again, the bigger the trike, typically the bigger the basket you're going to get in the rear. If the trike's designed to be more compact, then you're gonna typically find smaller baskets. The other thing, too, is that a lot of the baskets that exist on many trikes, not ours, don't have bottoms to them, or the bottoms are thick piping that's spaced far apart from each other. Not conducive to carrying animals. So if you were to opt for those, you'd probably have to put some kind of bottom layer in there. Now our baskets, our rear baskets, we do have a bottom mesh. So you could lay a blanket in there. You wouldn't have to worry about your dog's foot going through the basket. But that's just something to look out for if you do purchase a trike and you wanna bring your animal. If the basket doesn't have a mesh bottom to it, you know, think about what you're going to do to make it comfortable for your animal, right? So again, our relaxed body does have a mesh bottom. You just need a liner in there.
Our Evryjourney trike, which is not here. We also have liners for, again, be great if you want to put your dog in there. Our simple step through the fat tire as well. Um, and our any terrain also has a really nice, large basket that many of our People that have purchased it love putting their dogs in there. I've actually somebody with their pugs, three pugs that they put in the back, and that basket on the AnyTerrain is actually the same size as the relaxed body. So wherever you decide to take them, if it's in the front or the rear, make sure that you, again, get their harness or the leash latched onto the basket so they can't jump out. Last thing I was gonna say is we have our rickshaw, which is not featured here as well. Many people will have the passenger riding on the back while holding the dog. Again, that's good for dogs, maybe up to 20 pounds max. We've tried to do it with some other dogs that are significantly heavier, and it didn't really work out too well. Yeah, those are some really great options. Also, I'll say on the rickshaw, you can actually attach a trailer, and you could put the doggy in the trailer, but again, you have to think about what you're comfortable with and also what's safe for your animal.
