Electric Trike vs Mobility Scooter: Which One Should You Choose? What’s Best for Seniors in 2025?

Electric trikes versus mobility scooters. Which is best for you?

Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today, we're going to talk about electric mobility scooters versus e-trikes and which is right for you. All right, I've got three awesome e-trikes here. Our Simple Glide Standard and Fat Tire, and Relax Body. Now, if you're in the market for an electric mobility scooter and maybe you're also considering an e-trike, I'm gonna give you the pros and cons of both. Now, mobility scooters are a great way to get around, especially indoors. Also, to get outdoors, you can get around. However, e-trikes are a better option if outdoor riding, commuting, and errand running are what you want to do. Now, a mobility scooter, typically, they're going to be limited to about five miles an hour. And their range is going to be much shorter than the range available on e-trikes.

The other cool thing we talk about, range with e-trikes, is that you can easily have an extra battery that you can carry with you to go even farther. So mobility scooters are great for that short-range indoor traveling. Again, you're not going very far, and you like to travel at a very slow pace. Now, if you want to travel longer distances and have something that can be a true mode of transportation, an e-trike is a much better option. You're going to have top speeds of up to 16 or 20 miles an hour, depending on the e-trike. You're also gonna have a range of up to 50 miles. And you're gonna have better braking systems. You can also get exercise. So if you're someone who still can use your legs and you wanna get exercise, you can do that on an electric trike. You can't do that on an electric mobility scooter. Now, I also like e-trikes better than mobility scooters because you also have throttles on e-trikes.

This is a twist throttle on this model. There are also thumb throttles where you press with your thumb. Either one is a great option, but you can go without pedaling at all, just like on a mobility scooter. So you can have that same feature and have the pedal option on a trike, and you'll only have the non-pedal option on a mobility scooter with a much more limited speed capability. In addition to that, look at the cargo space you can get on e-trikes.  Again, on mobility scooters, you don't have nearly the amount of cargo space that you can have on an electric trike, and it depends on what you want to use it for. Do you want to run true errands? And maybe you want a really big back basket. Now, the one thing I'll say about a lot of e-trikes is they don't necessarily have the comfortable seating that you would have on a mobility scooter. Well, introduce the Simple Glide.

Now you have the same type of seating. You sit down comfortably. You can rest your pedals. You don't have to pedal if you don't want to. You can rest your arms on the armrests here, and you can easily steer. So, everything on the comfort side of an electric mobility scooter, you can now get on the e-trike as well. So again, if you're doing primarily indoor riding, indoor around stores, or things like that, mobility scooters are a great option. But an electric trike can do all of that plus more. I think it's a better investment in the long term, or maybe you want both. Your scooter can be for at home, and if you want to get out onto those longer adventures, you can use an e-trike.

If you don't love it in the first 30 days, send it back. No questions asked, the money is out of your pocket. We're also going to warrant everything for one year. If anything goes wrong in the first year, we'll take care of its part and labor. And if you want to come out for a test ride, try any of our e-trikes before you purchase. We're here in San Clemente, California, at 1046 Kairokoto Unit K. Come on out, test ride any of the e-trikes before you buy. And join our community. We have a Facebook group called Sixthreezero Pedalers. Join the group before you purchase to talk to existing riders to ensure you're making the right choice. Then, when you have yours, post to the group, make friends, and finally download the app to track your rides and compete on the leaderboard. So thanks for sticking around, and don't forget, it's your journey or experience. Enjoy the ride.
