E-Bikes & Bikes Customised to You
The reason I'm talking about this topic is that we get a lot of comments on our YouTube videos and riders reaching out, talking about how they have some disability or limited mobility in their knees. It could have been a surgery or anything that just limits the range of motion, arthritis, things like that. What the pedal assist has done is it has allowed those riders to get enough assistance from the motor while they're pedaling to keep their legs moving in a circular motion. If you are at the point where maybe you have arthritis or knee replacement or you have a disability where you really can't provide any torque on the pedals and your own power can't keep the bike upright, if you shifted it into level five pedal assist, all you need to do is keep your legs moving and the bike can stay upright and the assistance can do the majority of the work. And now with the pedal assist, you can actually take on some hills, you can go a little bit farther than normal, and it's allowing you to get out and ride on your bike places you couldn't go before because of whatever limitations you may have with your body. Pedal assist on e-bikes can have a real advantage for somebody with a disability or limited motion in their lower half.
Pedal assist on e-bikes can have a real advantage for somebody with a disability or limited motion in their lower half. If you're someone who has experienced the benefit and you have some form of disability or arthritis, please share it in the comments because there are lots of people who ride, read the comments, who would love to hear your experience and how you pedal. We've got three electric trikes that are great. If you have spinal stenosis, I just finished up with a 65-year-old rider who has spinal stenosis and is having a little bit of trouble walking, lifting their legs, also suffering some pain. An electric tricycle is a great option. You can use the assistance of the motor to help propel the trike and keep your legs moving. So if you don't have the muscle strength initially to pedal on your own, using the assist is really great. Now I just finished up a test ride with someone, 65 year 65-year-old woman who has spinal stenosis, and she test rode all three of these trikes, ultimately choosing the easy transit.
When I watched her taking the test ride, there were a few things that were important to her as someone with spinal stenosis. That is the step over height of the frame. She needed something with a very low step-over height to make it easy to get on and off. If you have that spinal stenosis, maybe your mobility has been limited, or you have pain from lifting or moving your leg a certain way, something to consider when you're shopping for your e-trike. Now, The 750 watt, the fat tire version is a 750 watt, so a little more powerful. The regular version here is a 500-watt, and the EZ Transit is a 750-watt as well. These have five levels of assistance. As you're building leg strength, you can use a higher level of assistance to help the pedals get going or utilize the throttle to help get the trike moving, and then pedal as you see fit.
Most people, when they put it in the highest level, are blown away by how much power these e-trikes actually have. It can really expand your world, and not only that, if you don't wanna pedal, this becomes your personal mobility device to run errands. All right, I've got three really great electric tricycles right here. The Simple Glide standard fat tire and relaxed body electric tricycles, and how these can actually be an aid to helping get your body moving again, if that's possible for you, or if you can rehabilitate. The cool thing is with the electric assist, if you've lost a certain amount of leg strength, you can utilize the assistance of the motor while you pedal. A trike is a superior option to an electric mobility scooter because you can actually get places quicker.
Cycling is a very low-impact exercise that's really great for rehabilitation, and e-trikes are a great option. Now, if you want to travel longer distances and actually have something that can be a true mode of transportation, an e-trike is a much better option. You're going to have top speeds of up to 16 or 20 miles an hour, depending on the e-trike. You're also going to have a range of up to 50 miles. You want to run true errands, then maybe you want a really big back basket. But an electric trike can do all of that plus more. I think it's actually a better investment in the long term.
