Can I ride my fat tire e-trike down these stairs? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today I'm gonna take my Simple Glide 750-watt fat tire down these stairs. All right, I've got my Simple Glide 750-watt fat tire. You can see I got my nice comfy chair here. Love this trike, super awesome. We've been doing some trail riding out here in San Clemente, California, and we've encountered these stairs. Now, I would not advise this typically, but I want to demonstrate how stable the Fat Tire Simple Glide is with the 4-inch wide tires, the wheelbase, and the low center of gravity. I am pretty confident I can take this on. Now again, I don't recommend you do it at home, but I wanna demonstrate stability. I'm gonna ride the trike down the stairs. All right, here we go. Now, I'm going to put my pedal assist down to one and take this pretty slow. If you are going to do a lot of bumps like this, I would recommend, generally speaking, to probably let some more air out of the tires. And I'm going to let our pedestrian go right here so she can get by, and then we'll go. OK. So again, depending on how high the stairs are, a little bit of a bounce. I would let some air out of the tires, but from a stability standpoint, no problem. Now you want to make sure you keep the handlebars nice and straight. Because if you start turning the wheel while going down, that's what might create some unevenness. All right. These are pretty steep, I don't know that I can take these on. Let's see. Nope, we can't. Do you know why? Because my chain guard is hitting.
So you will have to judge the steepness of the stairs if it's something you do want to do. Now, I'll also demonstrate going back up since that's our only option at this point. So let me go ahead and turn around here. We're in some tight quarters. Now, the cool thing about going back up is that there is some good strategy we can use. Very small turning radius here. What do I like to do? Let me get this straight. All right. So what I like to do is use my throttle. I have to get this straight on here. Okay. And you can kind of push it up the stairs and go up. I actually would feel better if I were on the other side to have a little more control. then I can push the back up while I do the motor. Like so, now this is less than ideal, but I'm just saying hypothetically, if you were in a situation where you had to get your trike up some stairs, you could take the throttle and keep this hand on the back twist it, we're also struggling here because of the gravel, but there we go. Now this one's a little tough, because this stair is a little higher, so I'm going to come from the front here and just get that one up. So if you can always give that little twist, the throttle, and give it a little push, like that. Twist and push. Not too bad at all. So I've got to get up a whole bunch more stairs here if you want to watch me. It's going to take a second. Okay. What's making this even more challenging is the gravel, because we're not getting good traction. I guess my recommendation would be to do this on the pavement. Okay. About halfway, not too bad. Let's go the whole way here. Now the good news is, getting a little bit more level.
Now, you need to be careful when you're utilizing the throttle like this, especially on the gravel, because if it skids out and then grips, it could zoom off on you. All right, last stairs. And we did it. So, not recommended to go up the stairs, but it can be done. And going down, depending on the angle of the stairs, is no problem. Keep your wheels straight. You'll want something with a wide wheelbase, too. All right, so if you have any other questions or comments, reach out to us at theteam@sixthreezero.com or call us at 310-982-2877.
