If You Can Ride a Regular Bike, Can You Ride an Electric Bike? Watch to Find out!

If you can ride a regular bike, can you ride an electric bike? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today we're gonna answer the question, if you can ride a regular bike, can you ride an e-bike? These are great, safe e-bikes with a very low step-through. It's good for beginners, also anyone who wants an electric bike that's easy to mount and dismount. All right, so there are a lot of first-time people considering getting new electric bikes. And there are a lot of questions swirling in your head like, which e-bike is right for me? Also, can I do it? Is it safe? So let's answer the question, if you can ride a bike, can you ride an electric bike? The answer to that question in the simplest form is yes. If you know how to ride a regular bike, you can ride an e-bike. There's only really one major difference between an e-bike and a regular bike, which is the motor. But what sets it apart is that you'll have a display with plus and minus buttons to adjust your assistance levels up and down. Now, a lot of e-bikes also come with throttles like ours do in sixthreezero, and typically the throttle is either a thumb throttle or a twist throttle like you would have on a motorcycle. Now, to utilize the pedal assist, it's very simple.

Like you would change gears on a bicycle, actually even easier. You'll have a plus and minus button. While you're riding, you can press that plus up or down and adjust the assistance levels that the motor gives you while you pedal. Like I said, so it's not adding anything different. When you talk about traditional bikes, most people have been using gears on their bikes and shifting gears. And even if you haven't been shifting gears, you don't have to shift the gears while you ride. You can put the assistance in level one and just leave it that way the whole way. And all you have to do is pedal. And when you pedal, the motor will assist you. So really not much different than riding a regular bike. Now, the throttle piece of an electric bike is something different than riding a standard bike. Two types of throttles that can come on electric bikes, like I said, which is a thumb throttle or a twist throttle. Now, you're adding one other element to your bike riding experience. I've done hundreds of test rides with first-time riders all of them easily figured out how to use the throttle within the first few minutes of learning how to ride.

So, with a thumb throttle, you just push it with your thumb a little bit like a gas pedal, like a twist throttle here. Both of the controls for throttle, or either of those options of controls are located right on the handlebar grips. And it's easy for you to access with your fingers or thumbs. So you don't have to take your hands off the handlebars. You won't lose control of the steering. It's easy to do that while you're riding. The core of riding an e-bike is the balance on the two wheels, just like on a bicycle. So if you can do that on a bicycle, you can do that on an e-bike as well. Now, over time, as you ride your electric bike, you'll figure out what pedal assist levels you like if you want to use the throttle or not use the throttle, and you'll gain more confidence in all of those electric features of the e-bike over time. But if you can ride a bicycle, you can ride an e-bike. And if you're thinking about doing it, I highly recommend it. It's a really fun experience and vastly expands the possibilities that you can achieve on a two-wheel bike.
