Should You Buy an EBike from Walmart? The Truth About Electric Bicycles from Walmart

Should I buy an e-bike from Walmart? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry, and today I'm gonna answer the question, should you buy an e-bike from Walmart? All right. Both of these e-bikes are Simple Steps-Thru. It's an awesome, easy-to-mount e-bike. It's a 500-watt. It's a lot of fun to ride. All right. So let's say you are looking for an electric bike and you've stumbled upon Walmart. I don't know if Walmart carries e-bikes in-store. I haven't seen them, but I know they have some on their website. And you're wondering, should I buy an electric bike? From Walmart. Well, it's not a simple yes or no answer. I think what it comes down to is what your expectations are of owning and buying an e-bike and what your expectations are of your experience. Now, the thing about walmart.com and amazon.com is there's a lot of brands now, you know, high-end, low-end brands that list their products on these websites to be sold. So, the quality of the e-bike that you'll find on the Walmart website can vary because there are a lot of third-party brands that can sell their products on walmart.com using the third-party platform like people do on Amazon, which is called being a seller on Amazon. So, the reality is you're going to find very low-end e-bikes and you're going to also find some good, quality e-bikes on Walmart.com. Now again, in-store, I've yet to see e-bikes in Walmart, but they may exist. Now, should you buy an e-bike from them? Well, if you're going to buy an e-bike online and you find a good price for an e-bike that you like at Walmart, by all means, go for it. I don't see any issue with it. Now, the one thing is if you're shopping on the low end of the spectrum of an electric bike, and you're finding something in Walmart and you're questioning, should I get it, should I not get it? I would check the brand's website.

Hopefully, whatever brand is on there, check that website, and see what kind of manufacturer's warranty they offer. So you know in the worst-case scenario, if something doesn't work or something's broken, you can go to the manufacturer and get parts that you need. Because if you do buy something from Walmart.com, they're not going to be able to send you the specific parts, talk you through, and walk you through how to fix something, their customer service reps will just not be versed in all the elements. So you want to check and see what brand it is. There are a lot of brands that are made specifically for Walmart that don't have websites and full customer service teams. So in that case, if you find an e-bike like that and you feel iffy about the service that you would get from the brand, I think at that point that it's up to you to weigh the price, right? And if the price is good enough for you and you're not worried about the service you're going to get or any issues that may occur down the line, I think jump in head first. And, you know, for the most part, they're all going to be decently decent e-bikes. Something on the low end of the spectrum is going to have, you know, less quality components than something a little bit more expensive. And you also may have a company that just doesn't offer the ongoing service that you would for a more expensive e-bike. So check with the brand. If it's a private label, Walmart-only brand, just know if you get it and something's wrong, you most likely would have to return it because getting specific product help is not going to happen directly from Walmart in that circumstance.

Now, we sell a lot of e-bikes online. I don't see any problem buying e-bikes online, but we also have a full warranty department. We stock the repair parts and we make sure to take care of any customers that would buy one of our e-bikes from our website. And I think that's the number one thing if you are buying an e-bike online. Now, if you do find an e-bike in a Walmart store, just know as well that they're not going to be able to provide service on it. They're not going to be able to help you repair it. So if you're looking to buy local, many bike shops may not service an e-bike from Walmart because they don't want the liability or they don't stand behind that specific product. So again, you're going to have to weigh the price of that e-bike versus the liability that you have to take on if you don't have an individual brand that can either find you, someone, to repair it or give you the parts that you need. So, I think, yes, buy an e-bike at Walmart, but just consider what you're looking for. Consider what's most important, and just consider... you know, what would be the worst-case outcome if you did buy an e-bike and something went wrong? Can you live with it if you don't think you can get the kind of service or repair parts that you would need in any given situation? But there are lots of different e-bikes on there, some good, some not so good, but there's a good selection. And Walmart sells a lot of electric bikes and they do have a lot of happy customers. So their price points and their quality fit the needs of a lot of customers out there. And if you think it may fit you, by all means, by all means, check it out and make the right decision for your riding.
