The Most Comfortable Compact E-Bike for Seniors? Lightweight, Easy to Ride, & Super Comfortable

The most comfortable, compact 20-inch e-bike you've got to see.

Hey everybody, I'm Dustin. I have 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today I'm going to show you the most comfortable compact 20-inch e-bike. All right, so I have two of our 20-inch e-bikes here. I have our 20-inch 750-watt zip and fold and our 20-inch simple step-through deluxe with the suspension fork. Now, I actually just had some test riders that came in right before we made this video, actually came here while we were making videos. We stopped for an hour, I helped them, and they test-dried both of these. The husband test rode the zip and fold, and the wife test rode the 20-inch simple step-through deluxe. Now, both of them were 75 years old. They actually currently have e-bikes, but their biggest complaint was that they're heavy and they're hard to control, and they don't feel safe on them. So they came here, and they wanted to test ride 20 inch, something that feels like they control them a lot better. And the wife ended up ordering the Deluxe, and the husband is still looking, but he liked the zip and fold, and there's a reason. So he likes the power of the zip and fold, the 750 watt, but on the zip and fold, the truth is that you do have to lean forward a little bit. The handlebars don't come into your body as much as the simple step through the 20-inch. And the wife really, really liked this because she said, I have so much more control over this bike than I do on the e-bike that I'm currently riding. I love to hear that because that's exactly why we designed this. Number one, it has the lowest step-through.

But number two, and I pointed this out to her about the ape hanger handlebars, and she said that's exactly it. And with the ape hanger handlebars, you can bring them into your body. So she's able to get them into her body, and this is actually how she had it adjusted, so it's a little small for me, but the seat's all the way down, the handlebars are bent into her body, and she's able to create a really comfortable riding position. The ape hangers are a unique thing, and that's the big differentiator; her husband really wanted the ape hangers on this style. Then he started to test ride this one. So he's still deciding, but that is a common thing. And also on a lot of the other 20-inch e-bikes that exist out there, they don't have the ape hanger style handlebars. So it's a similar fit in that it's a straight bar. You do have to lean forward a little bit on the simple step through the deluxe. We knew that was an issue that a lot of riders had, which is why we put the ape hangers on here. So they come into your body. You can have that nice upright position. You don't have to lean forward, and it's super comfortable. Now, the other thing too is that this is one of the lightest 500-watt e-bikes. Now, don't get me wrong. You can get a lighter e-bike, but this is 55 pounds, and it sounds heavy, right? Compared to a regular bike, but take into account that you have to have that 500-watt motor. And you have to have the battery back here as well, right? So that adds weight to it. But when you look at it with an aluminum frame, 55 pounds, you're gonna be hard-pressed to find comparable specs for this weight. Now the zip and fold is heavier.

Now it does have a larger battery. It's a 750-watt motor as well. So this e-bike weighs more like 66 pounds, 67 pounds, but you are getting, I believe, a 15 amp hour battery versus a 10.4 amp hour battery. So those are also things to consider is that if you want a larger battery, you are gonna add weight. That's just, there's really nothing you can do about that, given the current technology. But she also knows how you can step right through. When you stop, you have control. Again, with how light and compact it is, it's very easy to steer and have control of. The other feature we've done now on all of our e-bikes is that a lot of e-bikes, if you're in a minimum of pedal assist one, you still can have full power on the throttle. What we've done is we've actually limited the throttle output to the assistance level. So if you're in level one on the pedal assist, you only get level one power on the throttle. And what this does is it allows it so the bike doesn't take off, right? You can pull the throttle, and it's gradual. And if you want more power, you shift it up. We took some feedback from a lot of our over-60 riders, and they really wanted to have more control over the speed and throttle. So you can have all that with this, plus you have a lightweight, plus it's easy to control in a super comfortable riding position.

Now, I love the zip and fold too. Just two totally different setups. I do believe the simple step-through is more comfortable. So, hope that helps.
