The Secret to Senior Independence? An Electric Trike: The Game-Changer for Senior Mobility

Why electric trikes are a key to senior independence? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today, we're going to talk about why electric trikes are the key to senior independence. All right, I've got three awesome electric trikes right here that are great for seniors. Our two Simple Glides, one is a 750-watt, one is a 500-watt, and our Relaxed body are great ways to get around. All right, we are based here in San Clemente, California, and every week we do test rides with lots of riders over the age of 65, 70, 75, and even 80, and many of them have either decided to stop driving or a family member has convinced them to stop driving or they just haven't been physically able to drive for whatever reason, maybe something to do with their legs or the vision, any number of reasons, and what this leads to is a sense of loss of independence, because, in addition to not being able to drive, they're just maybe you're just not as mobile. You can't walk as far, and now all of a sudden, you become restricted to your house, and you're not able to get out, do errands, and enjoy the things you love.

Now, mobility scooters and electric scooters have been around for several years, and they're a great tool for seniors or anyone else who's got a physical impairment to get out, ride around, and enjoy the outdoors. Now, the one drawback of a lot of those mobility scooters is number one they're limited to a very slow speed, and number two, they're not all-terrain vehicles. So you can't get out on trails and do the kind of things you want to do. The other issue is the range of the batteries. So, introduce electric tricycles. You've got a mixture of a lot of the great features of mobility scooters, but now some additional features of a tricycle. Number one, if you want to get exercise on this tricycle, you can. In addition to that, to keep your legs moving, you can use the assistance of the motor to help you push the pedals. So even if you've lost strength in your legs and you want to be active, the assistance level can help keep your legs moving so you can keep your muscles stimulated to help decrease muscle loss over time.

The other huge benefit is the speed at which you can travel. Now, I get it that a lot of senior riders don't wanna be flying around at 20 miles an hour, but the benefit of e-trikes is you do have the option to go faster if you so choose. The huge benefit of that is now this can turn into an actual, practical means of getting around, especially when you're talking about trips of less than five miles or even less than two miles. So that local grocery store trip, the local trip to the pickleball courts, the pool, you name it, you can get there so much quicker than you could on a mobility scooter, and you have the option for much more storage, too. So, if you look at the Relaxed body, for example, you have a huge amount of rear storage. Our two Simple Glide options have this front basket here. You can also add additional bags to increase the storage.

Now, in addition to that is also the range on the mobility scooters, a much smaller range with an e-trike, you can get batteries up to 20, uh, 20 amp hours, 21 amp hours. What does that mean? Well, that means ranges of up to 50 miles on a single charge. So I don't know if many of you are considering that type of ride, but again, you can go out, cruise around, and enjoy the scenery that maybe you haven't been able to enjoy for a while, and do not worry about the range. The other thing is, is that the batteries are easily interchangeable. So you could always carry or bring an extra battery, whereas on a lot of these mobility scooters, they're internal, excuse me, built in internally, where swapping a battery is not an easy process. So when we talk about independence, electric trikes can be that alternative to a car because of the speed you can travel, the storage you can take, and you can maintain your independence that you may have lost while losing your driver's license. So it is a great thing to be able to get out of your home, visit friends, and stay social, so you don't end up isolating yourself because you're no longer mobile. So I'm excited and encouraged about what electric trikes can continue to do.

For creating more independence for our older population. If you have any other questions or comments on the topic, please reach out to us at theteam@sixthreezero.com or call us at 310-982-2877. And like I said, we've got three really good options right here. Our Simple Glide has a 750-watt motor with fat tires, and a 500-watt. Both of these are incredibly stable and easy to ride. Also, I didn't mention it, but all of these have throttles, so you don't have to pedal. You can twist the throttle, and they go without you pedaling. So you have the same capability on the trike that you have on a mobility scooter, plus you can pedal if you so choose, and our Relaxed body here has amazing cargo space in the back, all three incredibly comfortable. And like I said, you can use the throttle, cruise around, and pedal if you so choose. Now, we also have a 30-day test ride, your e-trike policy, so if you order online, don't love it, send it back, no questions asked, within 30 days, no money out of your pocket. Also, we warranty everything for one year. If anything goes wrong in the first year, we'll take care of it, parts and labor. And if you wanna come visit us and take a test ride, we're here in San Clemente, California, at 1046 Calle Rocoto, Unit K. Test all of our e-trikes before you purchase to ensure you're making the right choice. And finally, join our Facebook group. We have a group on Facebook with thousands of members, it's called Sixthreezero Pedalers. Join the group before you purchase to talk to existing riders to ensure you're making the right choice. Then, when you have yours, download the app and track your rides to compete on the leaderboard. Don't forget, it's your journey or experience. Enjoy the ride.
