Electric tricycles with a backrest. What you need to know. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today I'm going to talk to you about electric tricycles with a backrest. All right, I've got three of Sixthreezero e-trikes here. Our Simple Glide with this office chair style seat, with a very high backrest, and our Relaxed body, which actually has our upgraded super duper extra max cush seat with a backrest installed on it, and this is our Relaxed body e-trike. Now, millions of Americans are battling back pain, and when they're looking for their electric trike, they want a backrest to provide back support while they're riding. Now, the important thing to know is not all backrests are created equal.
So you can see most of the backrests that are available on seats have a very small pad that comes into your lower back. This is actually much bigger than the standard backrest. In my opinion, a lot of those seats don't do much. They give your lower back a little support, but they don't really support the entirety of your back. So really depends on what you're looking for and what your body's needs are. We've come out with the Simple Glide because this has full back support. It's up to the top of the back. You can also add a headrest here for added support. But this is going to provide ample support. There's also lumbar support back here as well. The other option is that there are a lot of recumbent trikes that are in a lay-down position.
Those also have a full backrest where your back is fully supported when you ride. So again, you have to think about what your needs are versus what's out there. If you just need a little bit of back support, you can opt for one of the smaller backrests, or you can opt for something like this. We have one of the largest backrests that can be installed on any trike with a seat post.So that's the other difference is if you're looking at electric trikes that have a seat post, you're going to have a select amount of options available that can install in the seat post because of the weight of the seat and the size of the backrest. You can't install seats like this on seats with a seat post. These types of seats have a special platform to support this amount of weight and to ensure that the seat is properly mounted.
This is about the maxed size that you could put on a seat post without the seat post bending or flexing and creating other problems. So if you're looking at a trike that comes with a seat post, then you can install any aftermarket seat that can also receive a seat post. There are a lot of options out there with variations of a backrest, but again, they're going to be smaller, where they really just focus on the lower back support. So you have to think again about what your needs are, what your back needs are, and what kind of support you need. If you need something with a full back support like this, or maybe it's even hard for you to sit upright, you want something more laying down, like a recumbent, those options are out there as well and if you want to find out more about any of these trikes right here.
